Everyone’s Favorite? An Inside Look at SQUATS

Recently one of the Spikey Bits writers started a huge, er small, project. Beef, recently purchased a treasure trove of sealed in package squat miniatures, and has begun constructing the mother of all Squat armies.

He picked up the collection from Tyton Games in Illinois, and my what a collection it is.  I’m still getting all the video and pictures together, but I have this little appetizer of a vintage “Space Dwarves” squad box to hold you over until then.
As you can see from the pictures, the box is in very good condition, and the sides are like a time capsule going back to the early days of Games Workshop.
Here’s some of the vintage 40k kits from that time period as well.  Best part is each of the sides of the box depicts a different range of Games Workshop’s products as well.

Besides the tons of video we shot, and Beef has launched a new big, er small, blog all about his new project! May I present to you the newest blog dedicated to squats on the tubes,  Squat on My Smiley Face.

You owe it to yourself to checkout a beautifully preserved piece of 40k history on video below. -MBG

Fire the Missiles! Cyclone Work In Progress.

Beef made a rare appearance the other day around the store, and brought some projects with him.

One of which was a Terminator Cyclone Launcher WIP (Work In Progress), with extra goodies.

The missiles he used are from the Armorcast line of pewter upgrades, and at around $5 for 4 they are priced pretty good IMHO.

Plus being metal, they can stand up to tabletop abuse to boot!

All hail the Omnissiah of Metal, Armorcast!

If you want to seem more of Beef’s work be sure to check out his article section here.

WIP Truescale Dakka / Psybolt Dreadnought

My buddy Beef (hold the cheddar) stopped by the other day with a new WIP, a Ravenguard Dakka Dreadnought.

He converted this puppy up good, with a bunch of solid true scale aspects, heck you can’t even tell those are sentinel legs till you see it from behind.
The model kinda almost reminds me of a Battletech Mech as well. I’m no expert on that game, so I wont even try to name the specific Mech, BUT it’s definitely close to one of them.
This guy can also double as a Grey Knight Psybolt Dreadnought as well with a little switch in icons, lol.
So anyways its Friday, this is all I got for this one, as I haven’t even begun to dissect this model yet. But hey it’s a Work In Progress, so I’m sure we’ll see more soon!
Check the three-sixty below to get a better lookie.

Wanna see some other cool work in progress stuff, checkout some of Beef’s other work here.

What do you think? Good conversion scale-wise, or not? -MBG

40k Hobby- Cheap & Easy Plastic Thunder Wolves Calvary

Recently a buddy of mine here at the shop named Beef (hold the cheddar) let me in on a little conversion secret- Thunder Wolves for $1.50 each.

Of course this was of interest to me, so I wanted to see these models for myself.  When he brought them by I blown away, this wolf was a great model for a Thunder Wolf and plastic to boot.

I turned the figure over to checkout the bottom of the base, and it was a Dungeons and Dragons figure!!!  It’s called a Rime Hound and it is from the Lords of Madness Expansion.  I looked at Beef and told him that this wouldn’t be much of a secret anymore!

With a little work you can make a saddle for this puppy so your Space Wolf models can ride into battle with some Imperial credits left in their pockets. Here Beef use some “Grey-Stuff” to make the saddle, and a equipment pack for the back of the wolfie.

He also expanded out some rider legs so they would fit over the added girth of the model.  These aren’t the same width as Space Marine Bike after all.  As you can see the Rime Hound makes a most excellent base for a Thunder Wolf!

The only real problem with this model is that you probably need more than one, but there is only a single pose available. However since it’s plastic you can just cut it up and re-position it like so.  Then just clean up the seams with a little Green Stuff fur!

Converting on a budget, with awesome results. I love it! -MBGhttp://blog.spikeybits.com/search/label/Beef
